Psst… just looking for the amazing resources from this episode? I’ve got you covered.
Have you ever wondered why being a wife and mother isn’t enough to give you a full and joyful life? Why those tiny people that you love so much still can’t completely fill your contentment bucket?
You were created to be in community and family, but you weren’t only purposed for your role at home.
“For I know the plans I have for you” this is the LORD’s declarations – “plans for your well-being, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
Jeremiah 29:11
When we get so caught up in one area of our lives, it’s easy to put on our blinders and forget that God’s plans for our lives are greater than our own. But it’s up to us to get quiet and listen!
Today, I’m talking to author and life coach Danielle Roberts about why it’s important for moms to have their own dreams and ambitions.
Meet Danielle Roberts
Danielle believes you have the ability to turn chaos and scatter-brained tendencies into a thriving life where you can use your gifts and your servant heart in your home and business.
She is a wife of 11 years, mom of four delightful kids, avid reader, tea drinker, and dreamer. She’s obsessed with using essential oils for self-care (and for your family) and asking questions to help you identify who you are and what God’s created you for. She believes rest is best, more Jesus over hustle, and that we are stewards of our bodies, our homes, and everything we’ve been given.
The Proverbs 31 Woman & Mom Goals
Danielle and I chatted about her devotional, Created For This: Digging Deep in God’s Word while Growing in Your Faith and Business, which is a study of the Proverbs 31 woman as an entrepreneur.
We discussed how the Proverbs 31 woman can feel like an impossible standard to live up to, but that in actuality she isn’t a laundry list of to-dos that you can never accomplish, but she’s more about a celebration of who you already are as a woman.
Moms often sacrifice themselves for their family and put their dreams on the back burner, and it shapes our identity into a role rather than what we’ve been called to do. And it’s important to find the balance between mom life and chasing your dreams so you can thrive.
Following Our Dreams Teaches Our Kids How To Follow Theirs
We discussed how when we have the courage to chase our own dreams and ambitions, we are setting the example for our kids to do the same.
But, contentment where you are is just as important as progress and growth!
We also want to make sure we’re showing joy and gratitude for the mundane, everyday tasks because they’re important too.
It’s about finding a balance between our role and our calling.
Every Woman’s Dreams Are Different
Not everyone wants to be an entrepreneur. Some of us find our fulfillment in full time motherhood or ministry or service.
There isn’t one path for everyone. It’s making sure you’re doing the things that make you feel fulfilled and you feel called to.
How To Discover Your Calling
There are a lot of women out there who struggle with discontentment. They know they were created for more than just making it through their motherhood, but they don’t know how to look outside of the mundane to discover their purpose.
Danielle tells us one of the best ways to find what really lights us up is to look back in our past and consider the things we’ve been good at and made us feel like we were doing something that matters.
Another tip she had was to ask the people closest to us where they see us thriving. They may see the joy in us that we can’t see in ourselves.
And don’t forget to pray about it!
Here are two episodes Danielle recorded on her podcast, Created For This, to help you seek God’s will for your life: Episode 48 & Episode 49.
Breaking Your Identity Box
You don’t have to have a degree to be qualified to chase your dreams.
You’re not less than someone else because your calling looks different than someone else’s.
Mom goals aren’t measured by money or titles or even the mess on your floor and the amount of times you order out each week.
Your motherhood journey and your goal path is completely and uniquely yours.
Bonus: Essential Oils for Entrepreneurs (and Mom Life!)
Danielle and I are both consultants with Young Living because we believe in their mission and the purity of their oils.
Some of our favorites for reaching your mom goals in both business and mom life are:
Joy, Peace and Calming, and Clarity
