After taking a few months away from social media a

After taking a few months away from social media and stepping back from my business to focus on homeschool and connecting with my family, I'm slowly easing back into work rhythms.

And y'all know I'm a words girl. I love to read them. I love to write them. So I figured the best place to start in this season was to focus on my message.

I've spent this week with @ashlynscarter in her Homepage Homecoming challenge learning how to use my words to make a bigger impact.

My biggest takeaways that can be applied to both life and business:

1. If you can't explain it quickly, it's probably not simple enough. Right?!? We overcomplicate so many things. Keep it simple!

2. Say what you mean, not what you think they want to hear. We learned this back in marriage 101, but it's just so dang hard - whether in business or personal relationships, especially for us people-pleasers.

3. Is what you're saying memorable? If someone met you a second time, would you need to introduce yourself again? We all know you only get one chance to make a first impression, but in practice, we often forget how much our words matter. We choose a pretty dress and do our hair and makeup just right, but what we SAY is just as important. It's the same in business. The pretty package isn't enough. You have to say something that's sticky.

4. It's okay to have an opinion. You speak the truth with love, but don't hide behind the fear of being seen and heard. Your message matters!

I hope this encourages you and gives you permission to step forward with confidence into whatever dream your little heart is desiring to embark upon. I know it did for me!

So proud of my two oldest boys for choosing to get baptized!

Last night they learned that “baptism is an outward expression of an inward faith.” And decided they were ready to tell the world that they follow Jesus!

Y’all the Lord is moving in this nation, even when it’s hard to see. We had 92 baptisms last night, including my sister, my niece, my nephew, and people who flew or drove in from all over the country.

And this has been happening all summer long at @conerstonechpl. Hundreds of people (both in our home congregation and in our virtual community) have come to be baptized. It’s been incredible to be a part of it!

Revival isn’t always big and flashy. But there’s no denying that God is at work!

Happy (belated) birthday in heaven my sweet friend.

This post is one of the hardest I've ever written because Katie was more than my friend. She was my sister in so many real ways.

On Saturday she would have been 36 with a beautiful family and a whole life ahead of her.

I haven't posted about my loss yet because it's felt too raw. Too real and yet still so unreal.

Katie and I were friends so long that I almost can't remember life before her. I could share a million beautiful memories and that still wouldn't be enough to put my love for her into words.

But there was more to her story than picture perfect moments. And while it's not my place to share all the details, because it's National Substance Abuse Prevention Month, I want to tell anyone who's struggling with addiction that they aren't alone. There are so many people who love you and want to be there for you.

And for anyone who's in my position, caring for someone who's struggling with substance abuse, I want you to know that addiction isn't personal.

It feels that way. I know that better than most. Addiction stole my childhood, more friends and family members than I thought possible, and now it's taken my sweetest friend.

And even though I spent countless days wondering what else I could do to reach her. I know now, after years of healing as my parents walked through their own recovery, that it wasn't about ME.

It wasn't about MY failures and shortcomings. It was about HER pain.

Sometimes people take a path you can't follow them down. Instead, all you can do is love them through it.

What that love looks like is different in every circumstance, but it often involves a lot of prayer and trying to get them help. Giving encouragement without judgment. And when all else fails, simply letting them know you're there if they need you.

For months now I've been grieving the loss of a sister and friend. A beautiful woman who was so much more than her addictions. But I've also found myself grieving the loss of what might have been IF...

But I've learned that even when there's no happily ever after, God's plan is still perfect.

So rest my friend, and I'll meet you again on the other side.

Being a boy mom is the best, and I wouldn't trade

Being a boy mom is the best, and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world BUT...

Don't you hate it when people sneak that "but" in there. Like you think everything is heading in the right direction and then BAM, they hit you with the but.

It's something I've become very mindful of over the last year or so. Especially when I'm apologizing. Oh yes honey, I'm sorry BUT... whomp, whomp.

It's important to own our words, and it's important to own our actions. Because that's how we learn, sweet friend.

However, there is one big exception to this rule:

"BUT God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved." - Ephesians 2:4

It's a beautiful thing. How that one little word changed everything for us.

So the next time I'm tempted to justify myself with a "but," I'm going to remember the grace that was given to me and try to pay it forward.

Kind of like this... being a boy mom is the best, I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world! Exclamation! No buts. And really, look at that face! How could you not love it?!?
